Hello, my name is Refat Jihad Foura. I write this to share one of the countless, heartbreaking stories from beloved Gaza. Like many others, I grew up in a small house filled with joy and warmth, a place I shared with my family. We lived in the Shuja’iyya neighbourhood in Gaza City, a place once filled with laughter and life.

But on October 7, 2023, everything changed. Our home and happiness were shattered in an instant. The sky darkened over Gaza, and the sun has yet to rise again on our once-peaceful lives. Our neighbourhood was bombed, and we fled with heavy hearts, forced to leave behind the place we called home. It was devastating – my heart aches, my tears flow without end, and I struggle to find words to express the pain we feel.

We sought refuge in a government school in Gaza, thinking it was temporary. For six days, we waited, hoping for peace, but the constant bombing drove us out again, forcing us further south. We ended up in another school in Deir al-Balah, trying to hold on as war raged around us.

We faced bombings that targeted even the car we were travelling in, narrowly escaping with our lives. But our luck seemed to run out – our school shelter was bombed, and we were left with no choice but to move into a tent, pitching it on barren sand in the desert. It’s a small tent, barely fit for shelter, with no warmth to protect us from the biting winter. The children shiver in the cold, and the relentless wind cuts through every layer of fabric we try to hold onto.

For ninety long days, we have hoped, prayed, and waited for this nightmare to end. Yet each day brings more suffering and loss. The weight of worry for my family and relatives grows heavier with each passing moment.

We need your help. I am asking for support to get us through this unimaginable ordeal. Funds raised will go toward:

Essential food and clean drinking water Warm winter clothing and blankets for protection from the freezing desert nights Basic necessities for survival, including hygiene products and safe shelter Your support would mean the world to us. Every dollar brings us one step closer to warmth, safety, and the hope that we will return to a rebuilt home one day. Together, we can bring light to the darkness we are experiencing and help us survive this devastating time.

Thank you for standing with us. May your kindness and generosity be repaid a thousandfold.

With gratitude and hope, Refat
